Specifically, they transfer:\n- **Electricity generation** (power plants, etc.) to a new company called **GenCorp** (Power Generation Corporation)\n- **Electricity retailing** (selling power to customers) to a new company called **RetailCorp** (Power Retail Corporation)\n- **Water and sewerage services** stay with the original P&WCorp\n\n**How it works:**\n\nThe Minister prepares two detailed lists (called \"Registers\") before 1 July 2014:\n- The **Generation Business Register** – listing every asset, debt, contract, and legal case moving to GenCorp\n- The **Retail Business Register** – listing everything moving to RetailCorp\n\nOn 1 July 2014, everything on these lists automatically transfers:\n- **Assets** (power stations, equipment, property) shift to the new companies\n- **Liabilities** (debts, obligations) move across\n- **Contracts** are reassigned – some fully, some split between old and new companies\n- **Licences** are divided (the electricity generation licence is split into Part A for GenCorp, Part B for P&WCorp; same for the retail licence)\n- **Court cases** are transferred to the appropriate new company\n- **Employees** are seconded (loaned) from P&WCorp to the new companies until new workplace agreements are signed\n\n**Special rules for \"bundled\" contracts:**\nSome contracts cover both generation/retail AND water services. These get split – the electricity bits go to the new companies, the water bits stay with P&WCorp.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n- **P&WCorp** – shrinks to focus on water and sewerage\n- **GenCorp** – takes over power generation\n- **RetailCorp** – takes over selling electricity to homes and businesses\n- **Customers** – their electricity contracts transfer to RetailCorp; water contracts stay put\n- **Employees** – temporarily work for new companies while technically still employed by P&WCorp\n- **Contractors and creditors** – need to check the Registers to see which company now owes them money or holds their contract\n\n**Why it matters:**\nThis is a major restructuring of essential public services. It separates the competitive parts of the electricity business (generation and retail) from the natural monopoly water business, potentially paving the way for privatisation or market competition.
