If you want to work in a casino dealing cards, supervising gaming tables, handling money, doing security, or managing gaming operations, you need a licence from the Director (the government official in charge).\n\n**Who it affects:**\n\n* **Casino workers:** Anyone who wants to work in gaming-related roles (croupiers, supervisors, security staff, managers, trainees, and administrative staff handling gaming money).\n* **Casino operators (Licensees):** They cannot let anyone perform these duties without a valid licence.\n* **The Director:** The government official who grants, renews, varies, reviews, and cancels licences.\n\n**Three types of licences:**\n\n* **Key licence:** For managers and senior positions.\n* **Standard licence:** For regular gaming staff.\n* **Trainee licence:** For people in training programs.\n\nLicences can be **provisional** (temporary, up to 12 months) or **full** (lasting 5 years).\n\n**Key requirements to get a licence:**\n\n* Must be at least 18 years old.\n* Must be of good character (honest, responsible, good reputation).\n* Must speak adequate English for the job.\n* Must have stable finances.\n* Must not have serious criminal convictions (especially dishonesty offences).\n* Must be competent for the duties.\n* Must provide fingerprints, photos, employment history, and consent for criminal and financial background checks.\n\n**Why it matters:**\n\nCasinos handle large amounts of cash and are vulnerable to fraud, theft, and money laundering. These regulations ensure that only trustworthy, qualified people can work in sensitive positions. The system includes ongoing oversight—the Director can review licences if someone commits crimes, breaches conditions, or becomes bankrupt, and can suspend or cancel licences if necessary. This protects the integrity of casino operations and public confidence in gaming."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/gaming-control-licensing-regulations-1995","history":"/api/acts/gaming-control-licensing-regulations-1995/history","analysis":"/api/acts/gaming-control-licensing-regulations-1995/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/gaming-control-licensing-regulations-1995/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/gaming-control-licensing-regulations-1995/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/gaming-control-licensing-regulations-1995/documents"}}
