This scheme tracks and certifies where renewable energy and low-emissions products come from.\n\n**Who pays:**\n- Companies with **production profiles** (making clean energy or low-carbon products)\n- Companies with **delivery profiles** (transporting or trading these products)\n- Companies with **consumption profiles** (using certified renewable energy)\n- Owners of **accredited power stations** (renewable electricity generators)\n- Owners of other **electricity generation systems** (like solar farms or wind turbines that aren't 'accredited power stations')\n- Owners of **energy storage systems** (like large batteries)\n- Owners of **aggregated systems** (groups of smaller energy assets bundled together)\n\n**How it works:**\n- If you're registered under the main Guarantee of Origin Act at any point during a financial year, you pay a charge for that year\n- The exact dollar amounts aren't in this law — they'll be set later in regulations (rules made by the government)\n- The fees are meant to be **cost-recovery only** — the government can't charge more than what it costs to run the scheme\n- The regulations can also create **exemptions** so some participants don't have to pay\n\n**Why it matters:**\nThis is the 'money side' of Australia's new clean energy certification system. It ensures taxpayers don't foot the bill for administering the Guarantee of Origin scheme — instead, the businesses benefiting from the certification pay their share. The law is carefully drafted to avoid constitutional problems (it explicitly says it's not a tax on states, and not a customs or excise duty)."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/future-made-in-australia-guarantee-of-origin-charges-act-2024","history":"/api/acts/future-made-in-australia-guarantee-of-origin-charges-act-2024/history","analysis":"/api/acts/future-made-in-australia-guarantee-of-origin-charges-act-2024/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/future-made-in-australia-guarantee-of-origin-charges-act-2024/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/future-made-in-australia-guarantee-of-origin-charges-act-2024/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/future-made-in-australia-guarantee-of-origin-charges-act-2024/documents"}}
