This information is then made available to the public.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n\n* **Fuel retailers** — anyone running a petrol station must register and report prices\n* **Consumers** — benefit from transparent, up-to-date fuel pricing information\n* **The Commissioner for Consumer Affairs** — oversees the system and can grant exemptions\n\n**Key requirements:**\n\n* **Registration:** Petrol stations must register with business details, locations, trading hours, and fuel types\n* **Price reporting:** When prices change on the pump, they must be updated in the system within **30 minutes**\n* **Outages:** Stations must report if fuel is unavailable\n* **Exemptions:** The Commissioner can exempt certain retailers or classes of retailers\n* **Emergency defence:** Retailers have a defence if they couldn't comply due to emergencies or system failures beyond their control\n\n**Why it matters:**\n\nThis stops petrol stations from advertising one price while charging another, and helps drivers compare prices in real time.
