To work as an agent's representative, you only need the Certificate IV.\n- **Time limits:** Generally, you must have completed your course within the last 5 years. However, if you've held a licence or worked in the industry within the last 10 years, older qualifications still count.\n- **Exemptions:** The regulations recognise many older qualifications (from TAFEs, RMIT, and other institutions) and past licences as alternatives to the current courses. This prevents people who are already qualified or experienced from having to retrain.\n- **Historical coverage:** The schedules list qualifications dating back to the 1980s, including specific unit codes from superseded training packages, to ensure people with long careers aren't disadvantaged.\n\n**Why it matters:**\n\nThese rules ensure estate agents and their representatives have proper training in areas like property law, ethics, trust accounts (handling client money), and sales practices—protecting consumers in property transactions. The exemption provisions recognise that experienced professionals shouldn't need to start from scratch when regulations change."},"summary":{"complexity_score":3,"scope_assessment":{"changed":false,"description":"Based on the limited content available, these regulations appear to be a focused update to education requirements for estate agents, consistent with the original intent of regulating professional standards in the real estate industry.
