Licences last up to 3 years and can be renewed, transferred, suspended, or revoked.\n* **Standards:** The Authority can create **Codes of Practice** (rules) setting standards for hygiene, safety, training, and record-keeping. These codes can incorporate external standards (like food safety codes) by reference.\n* **Inspections:** Authorised officers can enter premises, inspect equipment, take samples (up to 10% of product volume), examine records, and stop vehicles transporting milk.\n* **Enforcement:** The Authority can refuse, suspend, or cancel licences if premises are unfit, products are unsafe, or rules are broken. There are fines for operating without a licence, hindering inspectors, or giving false information.\n* **Governance:** The Authority has 5 members (including farmers and industry representatives), must keep financial records, prepare annual reports tabled in Parliament, and operates under ministerial oversight.\n\n**Why it matters:**\n\nThis law protects public health by ensuring milk and dairy products are produced safely.
