These allow new duties to be charged right away, but they need to be formally validated by an Act of Parliament later to make them completely legal.\n\n**What this Act validates**\nThis law rubber-stamps the duties collected under tariff proposals announced on 9 and 12 November 1964, including special reduced rates for New Zealand imports. It confirms these collections were lawful, provided they happened on or before 30 June 1965.\n\n**Why this matters**\nWithout this validation, anyone who paid those import taxes could potentially demand refunds, arguing the charges weren't properly authorised by law."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/customs-tariff-validation-act-1964","history":"/api/acts/customs-tariff-validation-act-1964/history","analysis":"/api/acts/customs-tariff-validation-act-1964/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/customs-tariff-validation-act-1964/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/customs-tariff-validation-act-1964/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/customs-tariff-validation-act-1964/documents"}}
