You must obey signs and directions from rangers.\n- **Camping:** Only camp in designated areas or where signs allow it.\n- **Fires:** You need a permit to light fires, unless it's a small cooking/warming fire built carefully in the open.\n- **Wildlife:** No hunting, trapping, or disturbing animals without permission.\n- **Drones/aircraft:** No landing or taking off (except emergencies), and no dropping things from the air.\n- **Heritage and environment:** Don't damage plants, cultural artefacts, caves, or natural features. Don't bring in non-native plants or animals.\n- **Dogs and pets:** Follow signs about where pets are allowed; rangers can order you to remove or control your animal.\n\n**The 'authority' system:**\n\nMany activities banned by default (like using a chainsaw or metal detector) can be allowed if you apply for an **authority** (a permit). Managing authorities can grant these with conditions, or refuse them. They can also cancel or suspend authorities if you break the rules.\n\n**Special rules for Government House land:**\n\nBailiffs can remove trespassers or troublemakers from Government House land and demand their name and address.\n\n**Why it matters:**\n\nThese regulations balance public enjoyment of natural spaces with conservation and safety.
