The court can:\n    *   Hear applications about bail, venue changes, or staying proceedings (stopping the case)\n    *   Order \"status hearings\" or \"pre-trial hearings\" (meetings to check case progress or sort out legal issues before trial)\n    *   Set dates for the actual trial or sentencing\n    *   Adjourn (postpone) matters\n*   **Sentencing requests:** Allows the Chief Judge to set deadlines for requests about \"pending charges\" — this refers to asking the court to take other uncharged offences into account during sentencing (known as \"pleading to the TIC\" or \"taking into consideration\").\n\n**Who it affects:**\n\n*   **Accused people** who have been committed to the District Court for trial or sentencing\n*   **Prosecutors** (authorised officers) who must lodge documents on time\n*   **District Court judges and staff** who manage the court's criminal lists\n\n**Why it matters:**\n\nThese rules keep criminal cases moving efficiently. Without them, cases could sit in limbo indefinitely after committal. The rules create a framework for the first appearance in the higher court and give the Chief Judge flexibility to set time limits through \"practice directions\" (official court guidelines) rather than rigid legislative deadlines."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/criminal-procedure-district-court-rules-2008","history":"/api/acts/criminal-procedure-district-court-rules-2008/history","analysis":"/api/acts/criminal-procedure-district-court-rules-2008/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/criminal-procedure-district-court-rules-2008/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/criminal-procedure-district-court-rules-2008/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/criminal-procedure-district-court-rules-2008/documents"}}
