Fees the State pays to doctors and other professionals**\n- **Doctors performing autopsies**: Different rates apply depending on whether the work was pre-arranged ($269.34/hour), urgent or after-hours ($291.45-$388.60/hour), or involved attending a death scene. CT scans are paid separately at a flat rate of $250.\n- **Laboratory staff**: Scientists and technicians supporting autopsies earn $60/hour.\n- **Administrative support**: Staff helping doctors earn $50/hour.\n- **Witnesses at inquests**: Doctors giving evidence earn $269.34/hour (including travel and waiting time). Other witnesses receive the same allowances as prosecution witnesses in criminal courts.\n\n**2. Fees people pay to the State for copies of investigation documents**\n- First copy: $2.95 per page (capped at $76.75 total).\n- Additional copies: $0.65 per page (capped at $30.60 total).\n- **Fee waivers** apply for:\n  - Family members of the deceased (no fee).\n  - People with concession cards (health care or pensioner cards) who are in financial hardship.\n  - Researchers conducting non-profit research where the fee would be an unreasonable burden.\n\n**3. Transitional provisions**\n- Ensures doctors and witnesses who started work under the old 2003 regulation get paid under those old rules, even if they finish after this regulation took effect.\n- Updates payment rules for people who attended inquests before 2017 but hadn't been paid yet.\n\n**Why it matters**: This ensures professionals are fairly compensated for coronial work while balancing public access to coronial documents through fee waivers for vulnerable people and families."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/coroners-regulation-2015","history":"/api/acts/coroners-regulation-2015/history","analysis":"/api/acts/coroners-regulation-2015/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/coroners-regulation-2015/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/coroners-regulation-2015/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/coroners-regulation-2015/documents"}}
