The closed road becomes part of Reserve 8899, which is land used by Perth Modern School. The law requires that a footpath be provided somewhere on the reserve so pedestrians can still walk through the area.\n\n**What it does:**\n- Shuts down College Street (the section between Roberts Road and Subiaco Road)\n- Transfers the land to the school reserve\n- Requires a pedestrian footpath to be maintained\n\n**Who it affects:**\n- Perth Modern School (gains land)\n- Local residents and pedestrians (lose a public road but keep walking access via the required footpath)\n\n**Why it matters:**\nThis is a classic example of a \"roads closure\" or \"roads opening and closing\" Act — a common type of legislation in Australia that converts public roads into private or reserved land. These Acts are usually highly specific to one location and are often passed to allow schools, hospitals, or developers to expand onto land that was originally set aside for public thoroughfares."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/college-street-closure-act-1958","history":"/api/acts/college-street-closure-act-1958/history","analysis":"/api/acts/college-street-closure-act-1958/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/college-street-closure-act-1958/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/college-street-closure-act-1958/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/college-street-closure-act-1958/documents"}}
