These are special companies set up under the *Coal Industry Act 2001* to manage things like workers compensation and welfare for coal workers.\n\n**Key things it covers:**\n\n- **Information powers** — The Minister can demand a wide range of documents and details from these companies, including: board meeting minutes, director pay, contracts, overseas travel, conflict of interest disclosures, property holdings, and even staff names. Companies have 14 days to comply or face a fine (30 penalty units, roughly $3,300).\n\n- **Operating plans** — Companies must submit annual plans showing what activities they'll do, the risks involved, what legal power lets them do it, and how they'll spend any surplus money.\n\n- **How to send notices** — Sets out practical rules for delivering official documents (in person, by post, or email).\n\n- **Repeal and replacement** — This 2020 version replaces the 2011 Regulation, but anything valid under the old rules stays valid.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n\n- Approved companies under the *Coal Industry Act 2001* (primarily Coal Services Pty Limited and related entities)\n- Their directors, officers, and staff\n- The NSW Minister responsible for the coal industry\n\n**Why it matters:**\n\nThis is about **transparency and accountability**. These companies handle significant money and important functions for coal workers. The Regulation ensures the government can scrutinise their governance, spending, and decision-making to protect public and worker interests."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/coal-industry-regulation-2020","history":"/api/acts/coal-industry-regulation-2020/history","analysis":"/api/acts/coal-industry-regulation-2020/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/coal-industry-regulation-2020/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/coal-industry-regulation-2020/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/coal-industry-regulation-2020/documents"}}
