This person cannot be told what to write in their reports.\n- **Tracks recommendations** from several key reports, including the Tasmanian Commission of Inquiry into child sexual abuse (2021), the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse (2017), and other related reviews.\n- **Forces agencies to cooperate**—the Monitor can enter government buildings, inspect documents, demand information, and issue compliance notices if agencies drag their feet.\n- **Requires transparency**—the Monitor must publish annual reports and can also publish special reports at any time. These reports go to Parliament and must be made public.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n- **Government agencies** listed in Schedule 1 (including schools, hospitals, child safety bodies, the Integrity Commission, Ombudsman, and others). These agencies must respond to requests and implement recommendations.\n- **Survivors and children**—the Monitor must consult with abuse survivors and young people when reviewing how recommendations are being implemented.\n- **The public**—all reports are published online so Tasmanians can see whether the government is keeping its promises to protect children.\n\n**Why it matters:**\nAfter major scandals and inquiries, governments often promise reform but fail to deliver. This law creates permanent, independent scrutiny to ensure child safety reforms actually happen. It gives the Monitor real teeth—including the power to name and shame non-compliant agencies in public reports—and protects them from political interference or legal retaliation when acting in good faith.\n\nThe law automatically expires in 2034 unless Parliament extends it."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/child-safety-reform-implementation-monitor-act-2024","history":"/api/acts/child-safety-reform-implementation-monitor-act-2024/history","analysis":"/api/acts/child-safety-reform-implementation-monitor-act-2024/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/child-safety-reform-implementation-monitor-act-2024/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/child-safety-reform-implementation-monitor-act-2024/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/child-safety-reform-implementation-monitor-act-2024/documents"}}
