McCormick  \nDirector of Aviation Safety\n\n18 June 2010\n\nExemption — time-in-service recording on maintenance release\n\nDetermination — non-application of part of CAO 100.5\n\n1 Duration\n\nThis instrument:\n\n(a) commences on 1 July 2010; and\n\n(b) stops having effect at the end of 30 June 2012.\n\n2 Application\n\nThis instrument applies to:\n\n(a) Class A aircraft (the aircraft); and\n\n(b) the owner, the operator and the pilot in command of a Class A aircraft (the relevant persons).\n\n3 Exemption\n\nEach aircraft and each relevant person is exempt from compliance with regulation 43B of CAR 1988.\n\n4 Conditions\n\nThe exemption is subject to the conditions mentioned in Schedule 1.\n\n5 Determination\n\nI determine that subparagraphs 6.5 (d), (e) and (f) of CAO 100.5 do not apply to Class A aircraft.\n\nSchedule 1 Conditions\n\nThe operator of the aircraft:\n\n(a) must ensure that the aircraft’s approved system of maintenance includes an approved recording method for time-in-service which is sufficient to meet continuing airworthiness requirements; and\n\n(b) must include details of the recording method in the operator’s maintenance control manual prepared for regulation 42ZY of CAR 1988.","sortOrder":0}],"analysis":{"kimi_summary":{"_metrics":{"model":"kimi-k2.5","source":"moonshot-batch","completionTokens":1660},"content_quality":"ok","complexity_score":2,"scope_assessment":{"changed":false,"description":"The instrument maintains its original limited scope as a targeted exemption for Class A aircraft from specific maintenance recording requirements under regulation 43B and parts of CAO 100.5."},"complexity_factors":["Single-purpose exemption instrument with limited application scope","Only 2 defined categories (Class A aircraft and 'relevant persons')","Minimal cross-referencing (only 3 external provisions cited)","Simple conditional structure with just 2 conditions in Schedule 1","No nested exceptions or complex definitional chains"],"plain_english_summary":"This instrument exempts Class A aircraft (and their owners, operators and pilots) from the regulation requiring \"time-in-service\" to be recorded on maintenance release documents, allowing use of an approved alternative flight-time recording method instead.
