These aren't written directly in the regulations; instead, the rules \"adopt\" standards from the **Tasmanian Salmonid Industry Biosecurity Program** (a separate industry/government program that can be updated over time).\n- The zones apply to anyone involved in the **primary production of salmonids** — this includes growing, harvesting, transporting, holding, or processing Atlantic salmon, rainbow trout, brook trout, brown trout, and their hybrids.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n- Commercial salmon and trout farmers (marine and freshwater)\n- Fish processing facilities with the relevant licences\n- Anyone proposing to enter these industries\n\n**Why it matters:**\nTasmania's salmon industry is economically significant but vulnerable to disease outbreaks. These zones create a legal framework for mandatory biosecurity standards, helping prevent the spread of pathogens between farms and protecting both farmed and wild fish populations. The regulations also include a **competition law safeguard** (Part 3) — essentially giving legal cover for industry participants to share information and coordinate biosecurity measures without breaching competition laws that normally prohibit such collaboration."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/biosecurity-salmonid-biosecurity-zones-regulations-2022","history":"/api/acts/biosecurity-salmonid-biosecurity-zones-regulations-2022/history","analysis":"/api/acts/biosecurity-salmonid-biosecurity-zones-regulations-2022/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/biosecurity-salmonid-biosecurity-zones-regulations-2022/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/biosecurity-salmonid-biosecurity-zones-regulations-2022/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/biosecurity-salmonid-biosecurity-zones-regulations-2022/documents"}}
