No paperwork was needed to transfer individual assets.\n* **Staff protection:** All Advance Bank employees became St.George employees on the same pay and conditions, without losing leave entitlements, superannuation, or continuous service.\n* **Customer continuity:** Bank customers' accounts, loans, and instructions continued unchanged — just with St.George as the new bank name.\n* **Legal documents:** Any contract, mortgage, or legal document mentioning \"Advance Bank\" is read as referring to \"St.George\" instead.\n* **Business names:** St.George could continue using the \"Advance Bank\" and \"BankSA\" names for a transitional period.\n* **Tax and duties:** The NSW Treasurer could require St.George to pay a lump sum instead of various state taxes (stamp duty, etc.) that would normally apply to such a large transfer of property.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n\n* **Advance Bank customers** — their banking relationship automatically transferred to St.George.\n* **Employees** — transferred to St.George with job security and preserved entitlements.\n* **Creditors and debtors** — anyone who owed money to, or was owed money by, Advance Bank.\n* **Property owners** — mortgages and land titles were automatically updated.\n\n**Why it matters:**\n\nThis is a **statutory merger** — a legal shortcut that lets two companies combine without the slow, expensive process of transferring thousands of individual assets and contracts. It ensures business continuity for customers and protects employee rights during a major corporate restructuring.
