They work alongside the *Auction Sales Act 1973* to control who can call themselves an auctioneer, how they get licensed, and what records they must keep.\n\n**Key things covered:**\n\n*   **Licensing:** There are five types of auctioneer licences available:\n    *   **General licence** – allows auctioning anything, anywhere in WA\n    *   **Restricted licence** – limited to specific goods, areas, or times\n    *   **Occasional licence** – for one-off events\n    *   **Interim licence** – temporary cover when a licensed auctioneer is sick or incapacitated\n    *   **Provisional licence** – for trainees working under direct supervision\n\n*   **Fees:** Sets out exactly how much each licence costs (ranging from $1.70 for a duplicate to $592 for a full licence), plus late renewal penalties (25% extra if you renew within 3 months of expiry).\n\n*   **Police checks:** Requires senior police to investigate applicants' character and suitability before a licence is granted.\n\n*   **Stock sales:** Special rules for selling livestock – auctioneers must keep detailed registers showing where animals came from, who bought them, and their identification numbers (linking to biosecurity laws).\n\n*   **Licence periods:** Standard licences last 3 years, with special transition rules for renewals made in 2017.\n\n*   **Refunds:** Allows partial refunds if a licence is surrendered early.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n\nAnyone wanting to work as an auctioneer in WA, businesses that employ auctioneers, people buying or selling livestock at auction, and the Magistrates Court which processes applications.\n\n**Why it matters:**\n\nThese rules protect consumers from dodgy operators by ensuring auctioneers are properly vetted, trained, and accountable. The stock register requirements are particularly important for disease tracking and food safety – if there's a livestock disease outbreak, authorities can trace where animals came from and went."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/auction-sales-regulations-1974","history":"/api/acts/auction-sales-regulations-1974/history","analysis":"/api/acts/auction-sales-regulations-1974/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/auction-sales-regulations-1974/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/auction-sales-regulations-1974/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/auction-sales-regulations-1974/documents"}}
