They aim to protect human health, animal welfare, food safety, and the environment.\n\n**Key things the regulations do:**\n\n* **Licences and certificates:** People who use chemicals professionally (for a fee) generally need a commercial chemical operator licence or a certificate of competency. There are different categories depending on what chemicals you're using — from basic farm chemicals (Category 1) to dangerous fumigants like methyl bromide.\n* **Safety rules for dangerous poisons:** Schedule 6 and 7 poisons (the most toxic chemicals) have strict handling requirements — protective clothing, respirators, washing facilities, and secure storage. Employers must provide this gear and train workers.\n* **Hormonal Growth Promotants (HGPs):** Special rules apply to these implants used in livestock. Farmers must keep detailed records, use specific ear tags, and can apply for \"HGP-Free\" tags if they haven't used hormones. This helps maintain market access for hormone-free beef.\n* **Notification of spraying:** If you're using highly toxic chemicals (Schedule 6 or 7) near neighbours, you must notify them — 100 metres away for ground spraying, 1 kilometre for aerial spraying.\n* **Residue limits:** Sets maximum levels of chemical residues allowed in animal feed and establishes when residues are considered to \"adversely affect\" plants, animals, or water.\n* **Health monitoring:** If there's concern a worker has been poisoned by chemicals, the Registrar can order medical examinations. Employers must pay for these and can't penalise workers for attending.\n\n**Who it affects:** Farmers, agricultural contractors, vets, stock agents, chemical suppliers, and anyone who handles agricultural or veterinary chemicals commercially."},"flash_summary_failed":{"failed":true,"reason":"A positive credit balance is required for all requests, including BYOK, so fallback providers remain available.
