Inspect nuts for cracks or splits. Defective nuts are to be replaced before further flight.\n\nNote: Piper SB No. 602 refers.\n\nCompliance: Unless accomplished in the 75 hours time in service prior to 9 August 1989 \\- within 25 hours time in service after 9 August 1989 and thereafter at each scheduled inspection for issue of Maintenance Release.\n\nBackground: Amendment 1 was prepared following a report that six split nuts were found on an Australian aircraft with serial number outside the affected range in Piper SB No. 602\\. Amendment 1 required repetitive inspections on all models. Models PA-34-200 and PA- 34-220T aircraft have a similar spar attachment and have the same part number nuts. This followed the discovery of defective nuts on an Australian aircraft outside the originally affected range. Amendment 2 further modified the procedural scope by removing the mandatory 10X magnification requirement due to physical access constraints, replacing it with a recommendation."},"complexity_factors":["Aviation-specific defined terms ('time in service', 'Maintenance Release', 'detailed visual inspection')","Conditional compliance deadline with look-back exception (75 hours prior exemption)","Reference to external technical bulletin (Piper SB No. 602) without reproducing its content","Amendment history affecting substantive applicability (expansion to all serial numbers)"],"plain_english_summary":"This directive requires mandatory detailed visual inspections of the nuts on the wing-spar bolts of every Piper PA-34 Seneca, with any cracked nuts replaced before flight. Owners/operators must do an initial check within 25 flight hours after 9 Aug 1989 (unless already done within the prior 75 hours) and at each scheduled maintenance thereafter. The previous magnifier requirement was removed because of access limits, though using one is still recommended where usable. It prevents catastrophic wing separation."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/ad-pa-34-29-amdt-2-main-wing-spar-attaching-nuts","history":"/api/acts/ad-pa-34-29-amdt-2-main-wing-spar-attaching-nuts/history","analysis":"/api/acts/ad-pa-34-29-amdt-2-main-wing-spar-attaching-nuts/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/ad-pa-34-29-amdt-2-main-wing-spar-attaching-nuts/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/ad-pa-34-29-amdt-2-main-wing-spar-attaching-nuts/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/ad-pa-34-29-amdt-2-main-wing-spar-attaching-nuts/documents"}}
