The hoist motor brush power supply wiring was found to be earthed to the casing of the hoist motor. The ground caused leakage current to the squib firing components, which triggered the untimely firing of the squib and cutting of the hoist cable. The same type of hoist is also installed on Gazelle helicopters. Notwithstanding that Gazelle helicopters are fitted with a resistor in the squib circuit capable of absorbing the leakage current energy and thus reducing the risk of untimely firing, it does not guarantee full effectiveness. This Directive requires the firing of the squib to be inhibited, installation of cable cutting shears and the installation of warning placards. |\n\n| | Further rulemaking may be anticipated following development of a suitable modification. |\n| --- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |\n\n![](image.001.png) \nJames Coyne \nDelegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority\n\n19 September 2005","sortOrder":0},{"sectionNumber":"AD/GAZELLE/32","sectionType":"part","heading":"AD/GAZELLE/32","content":"## AD/GAZELLE/32","sortOrder":1},{"sectionNumber":"Goodrich Hoist Pyrotechnic Squibs","sectionType":"part","heading":"Goodrich Hoist Pyrotechnic Squibs","content":"## Goodrich Hoist Pyrotechnic Squibs","sortOrder":2},{"sectionNumber":"12/2005 TX","sectionType":"part","heading":"12/2005 TX","content":"## 12/2005 TX","sortOrder":3}],"analysis":{"flash_summary":{"complexity_score":3,"scope_assessment":{"changed":true,"description":"The directive limits immediate scope to interim mitigations (inhibit firing, install shears and placards) rather than mandating a permanent design modification.
