For aircraft which already had ELT systems installed, e.g. on the production line, these modifications include the removal of the existing structural provisions for the new antenna. Recent investigation shows that in such cases (replacement of existing structural provisions) the new structure for the antenna has insufficient strength. This Directive requires the reinforcement of the affected area by replacing the structural provisions. |\n\n![](image.001.png) \nDavid Villiers \nDelegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority\n\n19 May 2005","sortOrder":0},{"sectionNumber":"AD/F100/65","sectionType":"part","heading":"AD/F100/65","content":"## AD/F100/65","sortOrder":1},{"sectionNumber":"Fuselage ELT System Antenna","sectionType":"part","heading":"Fuselage ELT System Antenna","content":"## Fuselage ELT System Antenna","sortOrder":2},{"sectionNumber":"7/2005","sectionType":"part","heading":"7/2005","content":"## 7/2005","sortOrder":3}],"analysis":{"flash_summary_failed":{"failed":true,"reason":"Unauthenticated. An ELT is a device that automatically sends out a distress signal if the aircraft crashes, helping rescuers find the wreckage.\n\n**Who it affects:**\nOnly five specific aircraft with serial numbers 11290, 11296, 11323, 11329, and 11330 — but **only if** they were modified using specific Fokker Service Bulletins (F100-25-038 or F100-25-096). These bulletins are technical instructions from the manufacturer about optional modifications.\n\n**Why it matters:**\nThe background explains that when these particular aircraft had their ELT systems modified, the new antenna mounting structure turned out to be too weak. Without reinforcement, this could lead to structural failure of the fuselage at that point — potentially catastrophic in flight or preventing the ELT from working properly in an emergency.\n\n**What must be done:**\nOperators must follow the instructions in Fokker Services Service Bulletin F100-53-100 (dated 28 February 2005 or later approved version) to reinforce the affected area.\n\n**When:**\nWithin 2 years or 3,000 flight cycles after 7 July 2005, whichever comes first."},"flash_summary":{"complexity_score":2,"scope_assessment":{"changed":false,"description":"The Directive is narrowly targeted to address a specific structural deficiency at the ELT antenna installation on a defined set of aircraft modified by two particular service bulletins.
