The nose landing gear collapsed, and the forward fuselage was damaged as a result of the incident. The flight crew reported that, when they attempted to take off, the control column would not move aft beyond the neutral position. Investigation revealed that the microphone jack assembly installed on the co-pilot's control column was bent downward, which restricted the aft movement of the control column. |\n\n| | The microphone jack assembly on the affected aeroplane was installed incidental to STC SA4900SW. Therefore, all Bombardier Model CL-600-1A11 (CL-600),CL-600-2A12 (CL-601), and CL-600-2B16 (CL-601-3A, CL-601-3R and CL-604) aeroplanes modified by that STC may be subject to the same unsafe condition. |\n| --- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |\n\n![](image.001.png) \nJames Coyne \nDelegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority\n\n10 June 2005","sortOrder":0},{"sectionNumber":"AD/CL-600/65","sectionType":"part","heading":"AD/CL-600/65","content":"## AD/CL-600/65","sortOrder":1},{"sectionNumber":"Control Column Microphone JackModificati","sectionType":"part","heading":"Control Column Microphone JackModification - FAA STC SA4900SW","content":"## Control Column Microphone Jack \nModification - FAA STC SA4900SW","sortOrder":2},{"sectionNumber":"8/2005 TX","sectionType":"part","heading":"8/2005 TX","content":"## 8/2005 TX","sortOrder":3}],"analysis":{"flash_summary_failed":{"failed":true,"reason":"Unauthenticated. It requires specific safety actions for certain Bombardier Challenger business jets.\n\n**What it does:**\n- **Requires pilots to check** the microphone jack on their control columns (the steering wheel-like device) before every flight to look for damage that could jam the controls.\n- **Mandates a permanent hardware fix** — modifying the microphone jack assembly according to a specific service bulletin.\n- **Sets deadlines** for when these checks and fixes must happen.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n- Owners and operators of specific Bombardier CL-600 series aircraft (models CL-600, CL-601, CL-601-3A, CL-601-3R, and CL-604) that were modified under a specific US FAA certification (STC SA4900SW).\n- Specifically applies to 16 aircraft with listed serial numbers.\n\n**Why it matters:**\nA damaged microphone jack had already caused one aircraft to crash during takeoff — the pilots couldn't pull back on the controls because the bent microphone jack was physically blocking movement.
