(Applicability)\n\n- Requires disconnection of the wire that links the aircraft electrical bus (or the ammeter) to the cigar lighter receptacle, if that action has not already been done. That wire may be connected at either the circuit breaker or the ammeter. (Requirement)\n\n- After disconnecting that wire, the owner/operator must take one of three options:\n a) Reconnect the lighter circuit to the electrical bus but only using a correctly rated circuit protection device (a fuse/circuit breaker) sized for the wire gauge; or\n b) Disconnect the wire at the lighter receptacle and remove the wire from the aircraft; or\n c) Insulate the disconnected end of the wire, fold it into the existing wire bundle and secure it to that bundle. (Requirement)\n\n- The work must be done at the next annual inspection, or no later than 100 flight hours or 12 months after the Directive’s effective date, whichever happens first. (Compliance)\n\n- The Directive notes that some aircraft may already comply under an earlier FAA AD and points operators to FAA Advisory Circular 43.13‑1B Chapter 11 for guidance on sizing the required circuit protection device. (Notes)\n\n\n**Who this affects**\n\n- Owners and operators of the specified Cessna 207 serial-numbered aeroplanes (see Applicability).\n- Maintenance providers and certificated aircraft mechanics who perform the modification or inspection.\n- Organisations that maintain maintenance records and ensure regulatory compliance for those aircraft.\n\n\n**Why it matters (stated purpose and practical consequence)**\n\n- The Directive is issued to correct an identified unsafe condition related to the cigar lighter wiring (see introductory wording and Requirement). Practically, it removes or protects an unprotected or improperly protected electrical feed to the cigar lighter, which reduces the risk of wiring overheating, short circuits or electrical fires originating from that circuit.\n\n\n**Cost, incentives and trade-offs**\n\n- Who pays: aircraft owners/operators bear the direct cost of work, parts and labour (Requirement, Compliance).\n- Options create a trade‑off between retaining functionality and reducing risk: reconnecting with proper circuit protection (option a) preserves the lighter function but requires installing the correct fuse/circuit breaker; removing or isolating the wire (options b or c) eliminates the lighter function but is simpler and typically cheaper.\n- Compliance scheduling concentrates costs at the next annual inspection or sooner (Compliance), which can reduce disruption if timed with routine maintenance but can impose an extra short‑term cash and labour cost if the inspection is imminent.\n- Implementation risk and compliance burden: the work must be performed correctly to ensure the protective device is properly rated and installed or that the wire is safely removed/secured; this typically requires a qualified mechanic and appropriate maintenance documentation (Requirement, Notes).\n\n\n**Effects on private choice and businesses**\n\n- Small effect on businesses: independent maintenance providers will perform the required work. There may be a modest demand for replacement circuit protection devices or labour to remove/insulate wiring.\n- Owners who value retaining the lighter must pay for an approved protective device and correct installation; owners who do not can choose the cheaper removal/isolation options.\n\n\n**Administrative and implementation notes**\n\n- The Directive cross‑references FAA AD 79‑08‑03 and FAA Advisory Circular 43.13‑1B for technical guidance on circuit protection sizing (Notes).\n- The CASA delegate issues this AD under the airworthiness regulation provision cited in the AD header; the owner/operator chooses which of the three compliant technical options to carry out (Requirement)."},"kimi_summary":{"content_quality":"ok","complexity_score":2,"scope_assessment":{"changed":false,"description":"This AD maintains its original narrow scope — addressing a specific wiring defect in a specific aircraft series.
