The potential for vibration of the control surface must be avoided because the point of transition from vibration to divergent flutter is unknown. The actions required by this Directive are intended to prevent excessive vibration of the airframe during flight, which could result in loss of control of the aircraft.Amendment 1 is issued in response to a new FAA AD, which requires revised repetitive measurements of the rudder and elevator freeplay, corrective and related investigative actions if necessary, and repetitive lubrications of the rudder and elevator components. |\n\n![](image.001.png) \nDavid Villiers \nDelegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority\n\n19 December 2007","sortOrder":0},{"sectionNumber":"AD/B767/226 Amdt 1","sectionType":"part","heading":"AD/B767/226 Amdt 1","content":"## AD/B767/226 Amdt 1","sortOrder":1},{"sectionNumber":"Rudder and Elevator Vibration","sectionType":"part","heading":"Rudder and Elevator Vibration","content":"## Rudder and Elevator Vibration","sortOrder":2},{"sectionNumber":"2/2008DM","sectionType":"part","heading":"2/2008DM","content":"## 2/2008 \nDM","sortOrder":3}],"analysis":{"flash_summary":{"complexity_score":5,"scope_assessment":{"changed":false,"description":"The amendment does not broaden the set of affected aircraft (still all 767-200/-300/-300F/-400ER) but revises the required actions: it replaces prior measurement and maintenance instructions with revised repetitive freeplay measurements, related corrective/investigative work, and repetitive lubrication as set out in the FAA AD and Boeing service bulletins (Applicability; Requirement; Background)."},"complexity_factors":["External normative reliance: mandated compliance references FAA AD 2007-24-08Amdt 39-15274 and Boeing service bulletins (Requirement).","Operational burden: requires repetitive measurements, corrective/investigative actions and repetitive lubrications across affected fleet (Requirement; Background).","Fleet breadth: applies to all Model 767-200, -300, -300F and 400ER series aircraft, increasing aggregate inspection/maintenance workload (Applicability).","Document-management: allows later FAA‑approved revisions of service bulletins, creating a moving compliance target (Requirement).","Temporal detail: multiple dates mentioned (amendment effective 1 Feb 2008; revised compliance date 14 Feb 2008), requiring attention to precise timelines (Compliance).","Technical specificity omitted here: measurement intervals and corrective thresholds are in the FAA AD/service bulletins, so implementers must consult external technical documents (Requirement)."],"plain_english_summary":"This amendment requires operators of Boeing 767-200, -300, -300F and 400ER aircraft to follow revised repetitive freeplay measurements, corrective/investigative actions and ongoing lubrication of rudder and elevator components, by adopting the technical requirements of FAA AD 2007-24-08 (and referenced Boeing service bulletins).
