Replace the passenger entertainment switches and the passenger service system power switches, as applicable, in the cabin attendant’s panels located at Doors 1 Right and 3 Right with new improved switches in accordance with Boeing Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) 747-33A2261 Revision 1 dated 4 June 1998.\n\n2. Subsequent to 30 January 2000.\n\nThis Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 3 December 1998.\n\nBackground: The Federal Aviation Administration has received reports indicating that fires have occurred on some Boeing 747 aeroplanes. Investigations have shown that the fires are caused by electrical short circuits resulting from internal failure of passenger entertainment switches and passenger service system power switches in the cabin attendant’s panels.\n\nThis directive prevents the installation and use of the old style switch that could short circuit when they fail, consequently causing smoke and fire aboard the aeroplane.","sortOrder":0}],"analysis":{"kimi_summary":{"content_quality":"ok","complexity_score":2,"scope_assessment":{"changed":false,"description":"This is a discrete, targeted safety directive addressing a specific known defect in specific aircraft. It requires airlines to replace faulty switches in the cabin crew control panels located at two specific doors (Door 1 Right and Door 3 Right). These switches control passenger entertainment and cabin services like lighting. The old switches have a dangerous design flaw—they can short-circuit internally and cause fires. The directive gives airlines until 31 January 2000 to swap out the old switches for improved versions, and after that date, the old switches are completely banned from being installed on any affected aircraft. This is a fire-prevention measure based on actual incidents reported to the US Federal Aviation Administration."},"flash_summary":{"complexity_score":3,"scope_assessment":{"changed":false,"description":"The directive enforces replacement of specific switches and prohibits future installation of identified old part numbers to address short-circuit fire risk.
