Perform a visual inspection of the electrical/electronics (E/E) equipment bay wire bundles and associated clamps in accordance with Boeing Service Letter 737-SL- 24-106-B dated 15 February 1996.\n\n    2. If, as a result of the Requirement 1 inspection, damage to the wire bundle or clamps is detected, repair the damaged areas in accordance with Boeing Standard Wiring Practices Manual D6-54446.\n\n    3. Costs include labour for inspections, parts (nylon clamps) and any repairs to damaged wiring or clamps.\n- Decides: the operator/maintenance organisation must schedule and carry out the inspections and remedial works to meet the deadlines; CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) enforces compliance with the directive.\n\n**Why it matters (stated purpose and assessment of effects)**\n\n- Stated purpose: Boeing reported electrical arcing caused by chafing of wire bundles in the E/E bay; the directive’s measures are intended to prevent further chafing that could cause short circuits, fire or smoke in the E/E bay (Background).\n\n- How the measure works in practice: the directive mandates inspection (to find chafing), repair to an industry wiring standard (to restore safe condition), and mechanical changes to clamp type and quantity (to reduce future chafing risk) (Requirements 1–4).\n\n- Costs and compliance burden: the directive imposes a one-off inspection and bolt/clip replacement programme plus immediate repair where damage is found. Operators bear the direct costs (labour parts downtime). Repairs that must be done “prior to further flight” can increase operational disruption if damage is discovered (Compliance; Requirement 2).\n\n- Implementation risk and discretion: the directive relies on Boeing Service Letter 737-SL-24-106-B for the inspection and installation procedures and on Boeing Standard Wiring Practices Manual D6-54446 for repairs. That creates dependency on those documents for technical detail; maintenance organisations must interpret and apply those external documents correctly to meet the AD’s requirements (Requirement 1–4).\n\n- Effects on private choice and business operations: the directive constrains operator choice by specifying inspection scope, clamp part numbers, and installation location. It does not require replacement of whole assemblies or change operator ownership; it prescribes specific parts and methods that maintenance organisations must use.\n\n- Substitutions and follow-on effects: operators may need to source specific clamp part numbers and skilled labour. If widely implemented, demand for the specified nylon clamps increases; if clamps are back-ordered, operators could face grounding or deferred flights until compliance is achieved (Requirements 3–4, Compliance).\n\n**Concrete behaviour changes required**\n\n- Inspect E/E bay wiring bundles and clamps as per Boeing Service Letter (Requirement 1).\n- Repair any wire or clamp damage according to Boeing Standard Wiring Practices Manual D6-54446 before the aircraft next flies (Requirement 2; Compliance).\n- Replace the specified steel cushioned clamp with the specified nylon clamp at the stated airframe location, and add clamps to the two named bundles (Requirements 3–4; Compliance).\n\n**Cross-references to note**\n\n- The directive refers to Boeing Service Letter 737-SL-24-106-B (instructional detail for inspection and clamp installation).\n- Repairs are to follow Boeing Standard Wiring Practices Manual D6-54446 (technical repair standard).\n- The directive notes FAA AD 96-10-08 as a related action (Note).\n\n(References in parentheses refer to the sections of the directive: Applicability; Requirements 1–4; Compliance; Background; Note.)"}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/ad-b737-95-electrical-electronics-equipment-bay-wire-chafing","history":"/api/acts/ad-b737-95-electrical-electronics-equipment-bay-wire-chafing/history","analysis":"/api/acts/ad-b737-95-electrical-electronics-equipment-bay-wire-chafing/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/ad-b737-95-electrical-electronics-equipment-bay-wire-chafing/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/ad-b737-95-electrical-electronics-equipment-bay-wire-chafing/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/ad-b737-95-electrical-electronics-equipment-bay-wire-chafing/documents"}}
