The inspection of the wheel position 3 showed that the axle nut had separated from the axle. The investigation showed that the most probable cause is that locking bolts securing the axle nut were not installed on aircraft whilst on the final production assembly line. The absence of locking bolts, associated nuts, washers and cotter pins can allow the loosening of axle nut and subsequently separation of the wheel from the axle with consequential damage to the gear. The actions specified by this AD address the unsafe condition identified above through inspection for locking bolts, associated nuts, washers and cotter pins installation. |\n\n| | The current amendment of this Directives changes compliance time from flight cycles to flight hours but retains rest of the technical content of the original issue. The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 12 July 2005. |\n| --- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |\n\n![](image.001.png) \nJames Coyne \nDelegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority\n\n14 July 2005","sortOrder":0},{"sectionNumber":"AD/A320/179 Amdt 1","sectionType":"part","heading":"AD/A320/179 Amdt 1","content":"## AD/A320/179 Amdt 1","sortOrder":1},{"sectionNumber":"Main Landing Gear - Axle Nut","sectionType":"part","heading":"Main Landing Gear - Axle Nut","content":"## Main Landing Gear - Axle Nut","sortOrder":2},{"sectionNumber":"9/2005 TX","sectionType":"part","heading":"9/2005 TX","content":"## 9/2005 TX","sortOrder":3}],"analysis":{"flash_summary_failed":{"failed":true,"reason":"A positive credit balance is required for all requests, including BYOK, so fallback providers remain available.
